Communication & design

Canva and presentations that make the point

Find the message, shape the story and make every slide earn its place.

Practical skills. A clear purpose.

A useful presentation starts with what the audience needs to understand. This workshop connects message planning with practical visual design, helping participants make clearer slides, workplace graphics and communication materials. Canva or PowerPoint exercises can be selected around the team’s existing tools, brand assets and common deliverables.

What you will practise

  • Define the main message and organise a presentation around it
  • Create a clearer hierarchy with type, spacing and contrast
  • Choose visuals that support the explanation
  • Adapt an agreed template into a consistent set of materials

Inside the workshop

From understanding to application.

Start with the audience

Decide what people need to know or do, then select the information that supports that purpose.

Make the layout clear

Practise hierarchy, alignment, spacing and contrast on familiar workplace materials.

Use visuals with purpose

Work with images, diagrams and charts that clarify the message rather than compete with it.

Prepare for delivery

Review consistency, legibility and the appropriate export or presentation format.

Who this is for

  • Staff who prepare slides and internal communications
  • Trainers, educators and presenters
  • Marketing and administrative teams creating workplace visuals

The final outline, duration, materials and account requirements are agreed in the proposal. Share your team’s starting point and a suitable example of the work you want to improve.

Good questions

Before the session.

Will the session cover both Canva and PowerPoint?

The main tool is agreed before delivery. A focused session can concentrate on one tool, while a broader programme can compare how the same communication principles apply to both.

Do participants need design experience?

No formal design qualification is required. Participants should be comfortable using the selected application and can work with guided exercises at an appropriate level.

Can we improve an existing presentation?

Yes. A suitable sample deck can be reviewed during planning. The exercise can focus on structure, message, layout or consistency, depending on the objectives.
